For the month of Feb we are running sales on all types of books for $1, $2 and $5! New uploads will be posted throughout the entire month.
What is up with the $1 and $2 sale you might ask? Especially for books in near mint condition???
Well, full disclosure, first off, not all the books I am selling off this month are near mint. Some are …you might say...well-loved copies and I cannot in good conscience sell for any more than one or two dollars. Secondly, it is quite frankly time to move some inventory. I have more books coming in from a collection I bought, and I still have a ton of long boxes stacked 4 high from my own collection. Frankly, every time I go to sort through, moving these boxes is a pain in the ass. And with the long slow process of selecting, flipping through, pricing and then listing books on my site, the time is just getting to be too much. So it is time to make way, move some inventory, and that means bargain basement prices on stuff. We are bringing back the dollar bin! (Virtually that is….).
On the point about the near mint books vs lower grade books. I am going to post some lower grade books at reduced prices. You might think this a dubious business practice. I justify this with my own recent experience with filling out certain runs of titles. For example, I recently stared to collect all the old Marvel 25th Anniversary boarder cover titles and got all 25, same thing with Secret Wars 1984. In the start of it I was just looking to complete the runs and did not care the grade of the comics. Only now do I look for duplicates to “upgrade” certain issues to a near mint status. My point is that there is a market for the near mint as well as the ‘reading copy’ in this hobby. I intend to capitalize on both. A further point about near mint books. I have noticed you can post near mint copies with white pages but if it is a title that is not “hot” or nobody is interested in, then they just sit there even at reasonable prices. (1970’s Superman and Batman come to mind). Really cheap prices however can make a sale, even with shipping costs.
That is the other kicker about online comic sales…. It is a fickle business. The shipping costs are a major turn off for buyers, myself included, even for high demand books. I have toyed with the idea of doing what some do and using flat rate mailers from USPS and just cardboard the book really well. I have received books like this and I have not had any books damaged yet. During the one dollar sale, I might try offering people to just claim on Instagram and do that flat rate shipping thing. Especially if people are only buying one book and I start to run out of Gemini mailers (I will need to save those for shipments of multiple comics). But that is dependent on sales. We will see.
Another piece of disclosure, you will not see any slab selling for $5- I need to make my investment back on those. Also, I have some minor key issues like this Tony Stark demon in a bottle issue that I cannot sell for less than grade dependent FMV (Fair Market Value). I have to make a profit somewhere.
I will list plenty of Marvel and DC. I will also attempt to make the searching user friendly on my website by adding books to “collection” categories when possible; Avengers, Fantastic Four, Ironman etc. Most others will just be grouped in the Marvel or DC comics categories.
As I have said before if you are looking for something specific, let me know, I have not listed my whole collection. Also, if you wish to buy multiple books, email me, I am happy to do deals for customers getting a bunch of books (but don’t ask for a deal on the dollar ones as I am already taking a bath there .
Also, I always try and throw in a freebie or two, if you buy some stuff, email me and let me know what stuff you are into, if I have it to send, I will try. (…and No, I don’t own Hulk 180 or 181).
As always, thanks for reading, and I am glad to help you make some good comix memories!
