Introductions

Hi my name is Jon and I am pleased to welcome you to the official goodcomixmemories website! Here is the story of how I came to conduct online sales of comic books from (mostly) the silver, bronze and copper age. I found the love of reading comics as a 10-year old. One day, my mother bought me a copy of GIJOE #34 (1986) to keep me occupied during a trip to the local drugstore. Being an avid watcher of the TV show and collector of their Hasbro Toy run, I was just at the right time in my life to read, and since comics are a great blend of the visual (drawing) and written mediums to tell a story, it simply clicked for me. While I had other random comics laying around the house, it was not until this issue of GIJOE that I became invested in the story – I had to know what happened in the next issue! I turned into a comic collector. I bloomed into reading anything I could get my hands on, - DC titles like Action Comics, Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash; and Marvel titles like Avengers, Captain America, DareDevil, ROM, Fantastic Four, Ironman, and a host of others. I even graduated from the buying newsstand issues at the drug store to having my dad take me to the local comic shop, complete with my own monthly order bag. As time passed, I had to have back issues of Fantastic Four and Avengers (among others). This led to weekend trips, where my Dad took me to various comic ships around southern New England to search back issue bins for silver age gems. He bought me a pretty impressive collection, eventually leading to runs of Avengers (vol 1) 2-82, 84 (with a few gaps) to 312; Fantastic Four from 35 to 333 (with gaps) and Ironman 24 to 250 (gaps). Fast forward 4 years and I was entering junior high school, the world was becoming more complex for me and I started reading real books. I started to collect less and less comics, eventually leaving my childhood hobby behind by the time I was in high school. I understood that in collecting, you had to preserve your items. I kept them in my closet in comic bags and boxes. Eventually, I went to college and after that joined the Marines. My comic collection sat gathering dust in my parent’s house. Fast forward 20 years and I was quickly approaching retirement from the Marine Corps. I was able to get orders back to my home state for my last tour. Sitting in my parent’s house, gathering dust, was still the old comic collection. I retrieved it and I researched selling my old comic collection since I was far removed from being a collector. After a few calls to comic book stores about buying the collection, I was taken aback by offers of pennies on the dollar! I have over 2000 books from the 1960s, 70s and 80s and I knew their value. I did not want to sell cheap, I began to research what selling these books on my own looked like. Hence was born the concept of goodcomixmemories. I started my instagram page @goodcomixmemories in November of 2019 as a way of getting back into the hobby and showing off my collection- all before getting ready to sell it. CGC subscription and LLC formation later and here we are! I hope you find the same joy from these books that I did as a kid. Happy collecting.
